FAQ

Is Pearl Glide ultrasonic cleaner a substitute for an electric toothbrush?

No — Pearl Glide complements, not replaces, your toothbrush.

While electric toothbrushes are essential for daily plaque removal and polishing the tooth surface, Pearl Glide uses ultrasonic resonance and precision targeting (with the help of its HD camera) to remove hardened stains, tartar, and buildup that brushing alone can't tackle. Think of it as adding a professional-strength deep-clean tool to your at-home routine.

Does Pearl Glide damage teeth?

No — not when used correctly and as intended.

Pearl Glide is designed with safe ultrasonic technology, gentle on enamel, and includes auto-activation safety features to protect gums. The included water rinse mode even helps cool the tip and remove debris, making it safer and more comfortable than many similar tools on the market.

Does ultrasonic scaler work?

Yes — ultrasonic scalers are clinically proven to be effective.

Dentists have used ultrasonic scalers for decades to remove tartar (calculus), stains, and plaque. Pearl Glide brings true ultrasonic resonance technology into your home in a compact, user-friendly format — ideal for maintaining clean teeth between professional cleanings.

Is it okay to scrape plaque off your teeth?

Yes — with caution and the right tools.

Removing visible plaque and hardened tartar at home is safe if done gently and hygienically. That's why Pearl Glide includes multiple cleaning modes and a real-time camera — so you can target buildup precisely and avoid harming gums or enamel.

Manual scraping with improper tools can cause damage — which is why guided ultrasonic tech is a safer option.

Do dentists recommend ultrasonic tooth cleaners?

Yes — as a supplement, not a replacement.

Most dental professionals support the use of ultrasonic tools as part of a broader oral care routine, especially for those prone to tartar buildup. Pearl Glide offers dentist-inspired tech in a user-friendly device, helping extend the benefits of professional cleaning — not replace them.

What does dental plaque turn into if not removed?

Plaque hardens into tartar (calculus).

If plaque isn't removed daily, it calcifies into tartar, which is much harder to remove and can lead to gum disease, bad breath, and tooth decay. Pearl Glide helps address
hardened buildup that toothbrushes and floss might miss, especially behind teeth or along the gum line.

Will removing tartar loosen my teeth?

No — properly removing tartar supports healthier teeth.

Tartar buildup pushes gums away from the teeth, weakening their support. Removing it actually helps stabilize your teeth, reduce inflammation, and improve long-term oral health. Pearl Glide enables you to safely manage tartar before it becomes a bigger problem.

In very severe cases of tartar where it serves to stabilize the teeth, removal could loosen teeth. This is a very advanced condition and teeth are likely in end-stage with imminent removal needed. Evaluation by a dentist is crucial with any tooth mobility.

It is important to clarify that removing the tartar itself is not what loosens teeth, it is the consequences of long term tartar presence without appropriate attention.

Does Pearl Glide substitute going to the dentist?

No — and it shouldn't.

While Pearl Glide offers incredible at-home cleaning power, it is not a substitute for professional dental checkups and deep cleanings. Dentists can check below the gum line, take x-rays, and address issues invisible to even the best HD camera. Pearl Glide is best used as a between-visit solution to keep your teeth cleaner and healthier.

Can I clean my teeth with a handheld manual plaque scraper?

Technically yes — but not recommended.

Manual tools can be risky if used without training. It's easy to damage enamel or injure your gums. Pearl Glide, by contrast, uses gentle ultrasonic vibration, a built-in camera, and safety features, allowing for far more controlled, precise cleaning — making it a safer, more effective alternative for home use.

Is it possible for Pearl Glide to knock off my filling or crown?

No, if a filling or crown come off during use it is due to an underlying issue and not the device which does not have the power to cause such damage. Pearl Glide cannot detach a crown, filling or cause a tooth to chip without an underlying issue present. It can be a catalyst for those things but not the cause. We recommend to see a dental provider if you notice anything loose, moving, or detached.

Is gum bleeding normal during use?

In presence of periodontitis or gingivitis, bleeding is very likely but should improve with removal of tartar and biofilm. Bleeding can also be experienced with improper usage. Using this product for the first time, minor bleeding may occur due to the stimulation of the gums and removal of tartar which presence is associated with inflammation. Minor bleeding can occur even in presence of healthy gums when starting to use this device. If bleeding persists please consult your dentist.

Can Pearl Glide be used on implants, bridges, or crowns?

We recommend using extra caution around implants, bridges, and crowns. While Pearl Glide is gentle, it's best to avoid direct contact with these dental restorations to prevent any chance of dislodging or irritation. Use it safely around your natural teeth and consult your dentist before use on any restorative dental work.

Can Pearl Glide be used on implants?

While the device is technically safe on titanium, we advise against direct use on
implants. Ultrasonic vibration may not be ideal for delicate prosthetics and can result in micro-abrasions on implant abutments. Instead, focus Pearl Glide on your natural teeth and surrounding gum areas. When in doubt, check with your dental professional for personalized guidance.

How do you clean the device?

After your session, we recommend to empty any remaining water in the tank and collapse the body. If you have lots of water left, open the water reservoir and collapse the body at the same time, excess water will flow out of the opening to facilitate easy drainage. Rinse the device under the sink including the attachment, there is no need to remove the attachment. Let the device dry on its own or pat dry, it can remain standing or laying down until next use.

Is the heating of the teeth cleaning tip normal during use?

During using, it is normal for working tip to increase in temperature. That is why presence of water spray is imperative and unique about our cleaner.

Is it normal to hear noise while in use?

There will be audible sound during operation, especially upon tooth contact. It is caused by resonance between the working tip and the teeth.

Is it normal for the product to suddenly stop working during ultrasonic operation?

The product has an automatic shut-off function, which will stop the transducer after 10 minutes of operation. You can simply power it back on to continue usage.

Device does not work when turned on?

The product is designed to work ONLY when in contact with your teeth. You will not hear or experience vibrations unless it is in contact with your tooth. It also automatically stops vibrations when contacting gum tissues.

There is a rattle noise when I shake the device?

This is normal. There is a pump inside the water reservoir which is responsible for water intake and spray.
